Sean Strafford is a Long Island based artist that has been drawing & painting since early childhood. After receiving an Associate’s degree in Advertising and Design at SUNY Farmingdale College and a Bachelors degree in Visual Art from Dowling College, Sean went on to work as a professional artist for multiple companies throughout NY. In 2008, he moved to Arizona to start a freelance graphic art company in his home studio. While the vast and surreal landscapes of Arizona served as a great inspiration, Sean found that he missed Long Island and returned to New York in 2013.
Artist Statement:
My current works explore a minimalistic approach by breaking down figures, light and landscapes into the shapes that our subconscious collects. Growing up near the ocean and woods of Long Island has provided me with a great source of inspiration to draw from. As an artist, my job is to explore, experiment and pioneer a visual dialogue that will connect with the viewer on a visceral level. My color palette leans towards muted and calmer tones to emulate a soothing and relaxed feeling. The concepts for my paintings will usually come to me in unexpected flashes in which I allow my intuition to guide me in the process.
